Dahal pleads to support Govt.decision on electoral law; asks party cadres to prepare for polls

JHAPA: As the leaders of four political parties have given responsibility to the Interim Election Government to finalize the electoral legislation, UCPN-Maoist chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said his party has not set any condition on threshold and that it will accept the any government decision on this.

Dahal’s statement came one day after Home Minister Madhav Prasad Ghimire informed that the government is mulling to forward the electoral legislation without having the provision of threshold.

Speaking at a program in Jhapa on Wednesday Dahal said, “We are not setting any condition on threshold. We will accept the decision the government will take.” The Maoist chairman maintained that debating the issue further will be pointless. He also claimed that the elections of the constituent assembly should take place by November at any cost and also claimed that the government is working seriously to conduct the poll by November.

Addressing the party cadres Dahal directed the party rank and file to go to the villages in preparation for the upcoming election to the Constituent Assembly (CA).

Dahal also directed the party cadres to help create a conducive environment for holding the election wherein all the people could wholeheartedly participate in the election process as this election would be significant in terms of institutionalizing the federal democratic republic.

Dahal said that the country could not get a new constitution from the dissolved Constituent Assembly due to the differences among the parties on key issues of the constitution such as state restructuring, forms of governance and the election system.
