Dahal-Nepal group demands action in rape, murder of Bhatta

KATHMANDU: Dahal-Nepal group of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has demanded punitive actions against those involved in the rape and murder of Bhagarathi Bhatta.
The NCP has condemned the crime, according to a statement issued by the group chairs Madhav Kumar Nepal and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’. On 4 February, the 17-year-old Bhatta of Dogadakedar Rural Municipality-7 of Baitadi district was raped before being murdered while returning home from school. “Referring to a rape and subsequent murder of Nirmala Panta one and a half years ago wherein the murderer(s) has still been walking free, the same nature of crime in Baitadi has proved that the state mechanism has failed to provide peace and security to the general people,” reads the statement. The group has urged the government to act responsibly in this crime and take action against the murderer(s). It also extended condolence to the bereaved family.
