Dahal hopeful for splinter group returning to the party

NAWALPARASI: Chairperson of UCPN-Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal has claimed that efforts for unification with the Mohan Baidya’s CPN-Maoist are going on and that he is hopeful of the splinter group returning to the UCPN-Maoist.

Addressing a program organized in Nawalparasi to welcome a group of CPN-Maoist cadres returning back to the mother party, Dahal said Baidya would ultimately come to realize that the goals can be achieved through unity rather than going separately.

The day comrades woke up from their dream, they came back to our party. Baidya would also wake up from his dream some day,” he added. However the two factions are very critical to each other. Over a dozen senior local cadres of Nawalparasi including Nawalparasi in-charge Mitra Sharan Sharma and former lawmaker Rupa Bikas, who had joined the CPN-Maoist, returned to UCPN-Maoist. There is rise in the number of CPN-Maoist leaders returning back to the mother party.

The Maoist chairman also said his party is in favour of a single communist party and also claimed that other parties are alarmed by “growing public support” to his party.

Leader Mohan Baidya had defected from the UCPN -Maoist last year following differences with the party’s political line and had formed a separate party–the CPN-Maoist. The break-away faction has been warning to block the election of the constituent assembly proposed under the Chief Justice led government.
