Dahal discusses election with Upendra Yadav; MK Nepal says no alternative to election


KATHMANDU: UCPN-Maoist Chairperson and coordinator of the High Level Political Committee (HLPC), the cross-party taskforce of major political parties formed to assist the Chief Justice led election government, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, held a secret meeting with Madhesi Janadhikar Forum -Nepal (MJF-N) Chairman Upendra Yadav on Monday and discussed the ways to conduct the scheduled Constituent Assembly (CA) elections in a successful manner.

Dahal said to Yadav that the HLPC would be ready to become flexible for ensuring the participation of all the political parties in the elections while, Yadav urged Dahal to create necessary environment for conducting the elections. The MJF-N has put forth various demands such as resignation by Khil Raj Regmi from the post of Chief Justice, complete quota for proportional electoral system and delimitation of electoral constituency on the basis of population.

Meanwhile, one day after he returned from India visit, senior leader of CPN-UML and former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal has said that the election of Constituent Assembly on November 19 is the only one viable option now and there is no possibility of backtracking from it.

“It is quite impractical to shy away from election now, as it has become the need of the hour. “We all should be aware to ensure that the election takes place in the stipulated time. If any leader assures of bringing the poll-opposing group on board, then one has to understand that it may be just a ploy to ruin the election,” he cautioned.

Commenting about the poll-opposing CPN-Maoist led by Mohan Baidya, Nepal said “the party has plunged into ultra-communist thinking, which is not good for the country.

While returning home from India on Sunday, leader Nepal has said that India is of the opinion that the election of the constituent assembly should be held on the stipulated time to bring the derailed democratic practice on track.
