Chairperson of UCPN-Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda has proposed that for the reunification with CPN-Maoist. UCPN-Maoist chair and CPN-Maoist chairperson Mohan Baidy held a meeting in this regard at UCPN-Maoist leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara’s residence in Lalitpur. Dahal emphasized that electoral alliance would be a practical option for both the parties should reunification remain a distant goal.
However, Dahal got no clear assurance from Baidya. A UCPN-Maoist source claimed that the atmosphere at the meeting indicated that there will be further dialogue between the two sides.
It has been learnt that the two leaders discussed the upcoming CA election and possibilities of party unification. Mohan Baidya had defected from the UCPN-Maoist in June last year to form a separate party. “Prachanda Ji urged me and our party to take part in the election by forming an electoral alliance ,” said Badiya after his meeting with Dahal,” However, under status quo, we don’t have any plans to participate in the polls.”
Reiterating that the proposed polls are impossible by sidelining their party, Baidya demanded that a fresh political agreement should be forged by scrapping the ongoing election procedure.
Meanwhile, Former Minister Nandan Kumar Dutta, who had resigned from the Madhesi People’s Right Forum-Republican (MPRF-R), has formally joined the UCPN-Maoist on Tuesday. UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal welcomed him and other other leaders in the party.
According to UCPN-Maoist leader Haribol Gajurel, some Muslim leaders representing the Muslim Association Nepal also joined the Maoist party along with leader Dutta.
Leader Dutta was Minister for Agriculture and Cooperatives in the erstwhile Baburam Bhattarai-led government. Dr. Baburam Bhattarai sacked Dutta from the Maoist-led coaliton government in March 2012 following the latter’s party asked to do so.
Addressing the function organized to welcome the new entrants, Maoist Chairman Dahal claimed that an overwhelming number of people and Madhesi leaders are joining the Maoist party for it raised the Madhesi concerns. According to him, the forces who are opposing the indigenous, Janajati, Madhesi and Muslim communities’ of wellbeing are trying their best to thwart the election.
