CPN-UML forms Central Election Secretariat; Rastriya Sadhbhawana Party and Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party-Nepal merge

KATHMANDU: With the approaching date of the elections of the constituent assembly, the political parties have expedited the process for the election of the constituent assembly. In this process, a meeting of the CPN-UML Central Election Mobilization Committee on Wednesday constituted the Central Election Secretariat under the chairmanship of party Secretary Yubaraj Gyawali.

The Secretariat comprises Pradip Nepal, Mukunda Neupane, Ashta Laxmi Shakya, Bishnu Rimal, Bhim Rawal, Keshav Lal Shrestha, Agni Kharel and Binda Pandey.

The meeting held at the party central office, Balkhu was presided over by party Chairman and Coordinator of the Central Election Mobilization Committee, Jhalnath Khanal.

Meanwhile, Rastriya Sadhbhawana Party (RSP)-led by Ram Naresh Raya merged with Tarai Madhes Loktantrik Party-Nepal (TLMP-N) on Wednesday. Tarai Madhes Sadhbhawana Party Nepal has been confirmed as the name of the new party following today’s merger.

Office bearers of both the parties were present in a special function organized in the Capital today to announce the party merger.TMLP-N Chairman Mahendra Raya Yadav will remain as the Chairman of the new party while RSP Chairman Ram Naresh Raya has been given the post of senior leader.

Following differences with Rajendra Mahato-led Sadhbhawana party, Raya and Gauri Devi Mahato had split with the party and jointly constituted RSP on January 29, 2012.

Similarly, the High Level Political Committee and Federal Socialist Party Nepal could not conclude the agreement even after forging consensus due to the dilemma in the use of language in the agreement letter. The agreement could not take the official shape after the negotiating sides could not reach an understanding on the language to be used in the agreement letter.

They have, however, agreed to increase the size of the Constituent Assembly to 601, like the previous one. The two sides have also reportedly reached an understanding on holding an all-party meeting as demanded by the FSPN. However, they are yet to finalize on the procedures of holding the all-party meeting and about the decisions such meeting could take.
