CPN-UML for holding talks on November at any cost; RPP-Nepal Chair against HLPC holding dialogue with other parties

KATHMANDU: As the poll opposing parties have been demanding to defer the elections of the constituent assembly for the time-being to settle disputed issues, the standing committee meeting of CPN-UML has concluded that the date for the election to the Second Constituent Assembly should not be postponed under any pretext. The election is slated for November 19 this year.

The meeting also decided to hold more talks with the parties that are opposing the election including the CPN-Maoist to address their demands so as to bring them on board the election. The party has however said that the talk should be held on condition of holding the elections on time.

Secretary of the party Shankar Pokhrel informed that the meeting agreed that the poll-opposing parties could be represented on the High Level Political Committee only if the November 19 election was guaranteed. “Our party is serious regarding addressing the demands of the parties that are dissatisfied with the polls,” he said.

Vice Chairperson Bidyadevi Bhandari said the meeting discussed the agenda of the party´s forthcoming Central Committee meeting. The central committee meeting that convened for some days in the third week of July was postponed. It is said the central committee meeting will resume once party chairman Jhalanath Khanal returns from the United States of America.

Meanwhile, addressing a press conference organized in Sundari, chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal (RPP-Nepal), Kamal Thapa, has said that a conducive environment should be created for ensuring participation of all political parties in the upcoming CA elections.

Thapa said the High-Level Political Committee (HLPC) has no right to hold talks with other political parties and added that the President or the Chairman of the Interim Election Council should call the meeting to find out solution to all political differences.

Blaming the cross-party mechanism of four major parties and the Madhes-based parties for not being able to carry out any works adding excitement to the election environment, he said the party has been running election related programs across the country focusing on the upcoming election.
