KATHMANDU: After some leaders of the party led by senior leader K P Sharma Oli has been demanding to conduct the general convention of the party before the elections of the constituent assembly, the CPN-UML has decided to hold party´s 9th general convention in February-March next year after holding the Constituent Assembly (CA) election scheduled for November 19.
During the ongoing Central Committee meeting of the party held at party headquarter, CPN-UML Chairperson Jhalanath Khanal has proposed to organize party’s general convention after the election of the Constituent Assembly.
Presenting his political document in the party’s central committee meeting, Khanal urged his comrades not to create feud inside party and be focused on the upcoming legislative election. The meeting also decided to hold the national convention of the party cadres at the end of next month. The meeting also took a decision to hold the National Representatives´ Council meeting after the CA poll, according to a statement issued by the party.
However, the party has not announced the exact dates for those meetings. To recover the loss in tarai region after some senior leaders of the party left the party and joined other political parties, the party decided to launch a “Terai-centric election campaign” in view of the forthcoming CA election. Recently, Standing Committee member of the party Ram Chandra Jha and other senior party leaders joined UCPN-Maoist.
Oli faction has been obstructing the activities of party president Khanal since he won the election for the top post of the party. The party has been the victim of groupism with party president Khanal, senior leader Oli and another senior leader of the party Madhav Kumar Nepal leading separate factions of party leaders and cadres.
