CPN-UML chair claims to emerge as largest party in second CA

KATHMANDU: As the election of the constituent assembly approaching soon, CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal has stressed the need for establishing his party as the largest party in the upcoming second Constituent Assembly (CA) election to ensure the drafting of the new constitution.

Addressing a program in the Capital on Monday the UML Chair said that the new constitution could not be drafted due to the dominance of ultra-leftist thoughts in the previous CA. He also added that his party has expedited the poll campaign with the view of establishing itself as a largest party.

Talking about the founding leader of the party late Pushpalal Shrestha he said Pushpalal’s role to Nepal’s communist movement was unforgettable as the leader’s contribution was instrumental in Nepal’s political achievements.

Similarly former Prime Minister and senior leader of the party Madhav Kumar Nepal praised Pushpalal’s contribution to the communist movement in Nepal. He claimed that only his party was able to take the leadership of Nepali communist movement. The ultra-leftist thoughts can never lead the nation, he added.

UML is making such claim at a time when most of the senior leaders of the party deserted the party and the party is losing its base in terai region. UCPN-Maoist leaders and Nepali Congress have been making claim of becoming the largest party in the second election of the constituent assembly.
