CPN-Maoist launches nation-wise protest against poll; Baidya reiterates unity with royalists


KATHMANDU: The dissenting Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist has launched nation-wise campaign against the elections of the constituent assembly slated for November 19. The party organized mass assemblies in all 75 districts headquarters across nation on Thursday against the election.

Party general secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa inaugurated the purported campaign at Shanti Batika in Kathmandu by breaking a ballot box. Likewise, secretary duo Dev Gurung and Netra Bikram Chand inaugurated the campaign at Lagankhel, and Suryabinayak respectively this afternoon.

Addressing the program Thapa dubbed the announced CA polls as a ‘drama’ and stressed on the need to boycott the elections through the people. A recently concluded central committee meeting of the party in Pokhara had decided expedite additional protest programs to foil Constituent Assembly polls scheduled for November 19.

Although the party has formed the talks team to hold talks with the government and High Level Political Committee but both the sides yet to sit on talk as they remained adamant to their stances. Leaders vowed to foil all the election relation programs if the government does not fulfill their demands.

Meanwhile, speaking at a press conference organized in party headquarter, Chairperson of UCPN-Maoist, Mohan Baidya reiterated that collaboration with pro-royalist forces is possible if they agree on federalism, republic and secularism.

Baidya made it clear that anyone can join hands on the issue of nationalism with his party, be it the former king Gyanendra Shah or chairman of pro-royalist Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal Kamal Thapa, if they accept federalism and republic. Baidya also shared that the 33-party alliance of poll-opposing parties received an invitation for talks from High Level Political Committee (HLPC). However, talks will be decided only after a deliberation among all parties, Baidya said. He further informed that the alliance has kicked-off protest programs against the elections in all districts today, the door for talks is open.
