CPN-Maoist forms talks team for holding talks with Govt. and HLPC

KATHMANDU: Following pressure from several quarters to take part in the election of the Constituent Assembly, the CPN-Maoist has formed a five-member talks team led by party Chairman Mohan Baidya to hold dialogues with the members of the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) and the government.

At a press meeting organized at the National Academy Hall to brief the decisions of the party’s politburo and Central Committee meetings, CPN-Maoist announced the high-level talk comprising of Chairman Baidhya, Vice Chairman CP Gajurel, General Secretary Ram Bahadur Thapa and secretaries duo Netra Bikram Chand and Dev Gurung.

The CPN-Maoist formed the talks team after the major four political parties decided to adopt maximum flexibility on the Maoist demands of holding a round-table conference, increasing the number of seats under the proportional representation system in the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) polls, among other issues.

Speaking at the conference Baidya ruled out the possibility of holding Constituent Assembly election on Nov 19 as declared earlier. “We have formed the talks team showing maximum flexibility, however, we see no possibility of CA polls on Nov 19,” Baidya said.

The CPN-Maoist and 33-party alliance led by CPN-Maoist has been demanding to scrap the 25-point presidential decree issued on March 14 that paved the way for the formation of the present government and formation of partisan government after holding the round-table conference.

Earlier, the party has ruled out the possibility of holding talks with the Interim Election Government and also the High Level Political Committee and claimed that they would only hold talks with the president saying the four political parties and the government are acting only in the tune of foreigners.
