POKHARA: At a time when major political parties have been preparing for the elections of the constituent assembly and the government and Election Commission have been preparing for the election, CPN-Maoist Central Committee formally decided to launch protest programs to foil the November 19 elections to Constituent Assembly.
Addressing a press conference organized by the party Wednesday after the completion of the extended meeting of his party, he added that the second Constituent Assembly (CA) elections scheduled for November 19 was not in the interest of the country and the people.
Baidya said the extended meeting had been unanimous to boycott the CA elections. He also claimed that they are opposing polls as there is no possibility of writing the new constitution by new constituent assembly.
Baiddya stressed on the need of resolving current political impasse through a roundtable conference among the political parties and other stakeholders.
The Mohan Baidy-led party, backed by 33 fringe parties, is on the forefront against the November 19 election. They have been expressing their disagreement with the Chief Justice-led interim government and the election process that it initiated.
“We have not only decided to boycott the elections but also to deploy our party cadres to thwart the elections,” Baidhya said in the meet.
On a different note Baidya ruled out any possibility of his party’s unification with the mother party, UCPN-Maoist. Some leaders and political analysts have been saying that the split in the party is the strategy of the party.
Moreover, Baidhya said the CPN-Maoist is ready to sit for talks if the Khil Raj Regmi-led government steps down and opts for the round table conference of the political parties.
