N24 Correspondent, KATHMANDU:- Chairman of the ruling CPN-Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal is ready to take the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) agreement to the parliament for voting. Probably, the MCC agreement will be voted in the parliament sitting after the general convention of the ruling Nepali Congress.

The MCC agreement has been under consideration in Parliament for two and a half years. The agreement, which was registered with the Parliament Secretariat on July 15, 2019, is said to be for parliamentary approval. MCC Vice President Fatima Sumar, who arrived in Nepal in August, said that this was the last chance for Nepal.

But last time, Prime Minister Deuba and UCPN (Maoist) Central Committee Chairman Prachanda wrote a letter to the MCC saying that time was needed to reach a consensus. But the United States has stepped up pressure to make a decision by December 14, 2021.

US Assistant Secretary of State Donald Lu, who is on a visit to Nepal, has called on the leaders of the major parties to take a quick decision on the MCC.

According to sources in Baluwatar, on Thursday, the day the US Assistant Secretary of State arrived in Kathmandu, Prime Minister and Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and UCPN (Maoist) Central Committee Chairman Prachanda had a discussion on MCC. A source close to the prime minister said, “I have not said anything for or against the MCC. But he (Prachanda) has agreed to take it to the parliamentary process. ‘

In a meeting with US Secretary of State Lu on Friday, Prachanda, chairman of the Maoist center, made the same point.

In a meeting held at the parliamentary party office in Singha Durbar, Prachanda said that the parties may have to cast their votes in the parliament. He claimed that they were not in favor of the return of MCC, but as some issues were disputed in Nepal, efforts were being made to reach a consensus.

He said that he would convene an all-party meeting with Prime Minister Deuba soon and hold discussions with intellectuals. After a meeting with US Assistant Secretary of State Lu, Prachanda told reporters that he had said that they would have ended it by December 14. We will try to reach an agreement before December 14. ‘
