KATHMANDU:– The country recorded the highest single-day spike of coronavirus infection in the past 24 hours.
According to the Ministry of Health and Population, the Kathmandu Valley saw 696 new cases including 620 in Kathmandu district and 38 each in Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts. In the 10,701 sample tests across the country, a total of 991 men and 463 women tested positive for the virus in the past 24 hours, Ministry’s Spokesperson Dr. Jageshwor Gautam said. Rupadehi recorded 102 cases, while 74 in Chitwan, 67 in Kailali, 47 in Morang, 44 in Sunsari, 35 in Nawalparasi, 28 in Kapilvastu, 26 in Surkhet, 20 in Gulmi, 18 in Banke, 14 in Jhapa, and 13 in Pyuthan.
Likewise, Palpa, Siraha, and Sankhuwasabha districts recorded 12 each. With this, the total number of coronavirus infected reached 51,919 in the country. According to Dr Gautam, 972 infected ones were discharged from the hospitals in the past 24 hours. So far, the recovery rate of the coronavirus infected is 70.6 in Nepal. It was informed that the total number of active cases reached 14,925. Of them, a total of 6,634 people are in home isolation and 8,291 others in institutional isolation.
Similarly, the number of people living in isolation facilities is 6,078. Dr. Gautam said that 170 infected ones are receiving treatment in ICU and 25 others in ventilators. He further said that Sunsari, Sarlahi, Kathmandu, Chitwan, and Rupandehi districts have more than 500 active cases each. However, Solukhumbu, Mustang, Manang, Myagdi, Dolpa, Mugu, and Humla have no active cases.
Likewise, five people succumbed to the virus in the past 24 hours, the Ministry confirmed. A forty-year-old woman from Morang, 65-year-old man from Mahottari, a 45-year-old man from Dhanusha, a 70-year-old man from Kathmandu, and a 55-year-old man from Nawalparasi died of the virus infection. With this the total fatalities reached 322- caused due to the pandemic coronavirus infection in the country.
