Commerce Minister Thapa-Press Meet


NEPALGUNJ: Minister for Commerce and Supplies Sunil Bahadur Thapa has said that the relief works for the flood victims in Banke district have been carried out effectively.

Speaking at a press meet in Nepalgunj today, Minister Thapa said that the first phase of relief materials like food grains, clothes, tents and basic medicines have been reached to the flood victims by the government.

As per the second phase programme, the government will resettle the victims in a safer zone after Dashain festival.

Minister Thapa said that he carried out an onsite visit in flood affected four districts, Banke, Bardiya, Dang and Surkhet to monitor the relief providing works that how effectively it was reached to the real victims.

He further said that the visit was made according to the direction of Prime Minister Sushil Koirala.

After carrying out an onsite inspection at flood affected VDCs of these districts, Minister Thapa said that the pain of disaster would be turned in to normalcy with the help of generous people and organizations.

According to the statistics of Regional Administration Office (RAO) Surkhet, 131,747 people are affected by the floods and landslides in Banke, Bardiya, Dang, Surkhet, Jajarkot and Salyan districts.

Similarly, 110 people were killed, 58 injured and 121 are missing in landslide and floods in these districts, said Raj Kumar Shrestha, associate administrator of the RAO.
