CIAA arrestes DSP while taking bribe; Seizes documents of Bishalbazaar Company


KATHMANDU: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), the anti-graft watchdog, has expedited its action  against corruption in recent days after the appointment of Lokman Singh Karki as the Chief Commissioner.

The Commission has arrested a Deputy Superintendent of Police ( DSP ) Tejendra Poudel red-handed while he was taking bribe in the Capital on Saturday.

A team of the Commission caught DSP Poudel while he was taking Rs. 35,000 from a dealer of second hand materials at Kalanki. CIAA Spokesperson Shreedhar Sapkota informed that the person had informed CIAA after DSP Poudel demanded the money to transport his goods out of the valley.

Poudel was promoted to DSP six days ago. He has been kept at CIAA custody in the Capital. Paudel will be produced before the court on Sunday.

Similarly, the CIAA has raided the Bishal Bazaar company in New Road, Kathmandu suspecting irregularities while renting shops.

According to CIAA sources, the raid was carried out on Friday, in which all documents related to the company’s properties and transactions were seized for further investigation

The CIAA said that it has seized the documents of the Bishal Bazaar Company to investigate the tax evasion allegation against it. The CIAA suspects that the company has evaded rent taxes of 346-room building.

The anti-graft body also said that a few have been gobbling up the money by embezzling taxes. The complex building was constructed on the government-owned 84 ropani land. Similarly, the CIAA has also begun investigating the alleged misuse of commercial buildings constructed on 22 ropanis of land owned by the government at New Buspark area of Gongabu. The anti-graft body has launched a crackdown on the entrepreneurs using the government-owned buildings.
