Chinese envoy calls on Maoist chief Dahal


KATHMANDU: Newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Wu Chuntai has called on Chairperson of UCPN-Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal at his residence in Lazimpat.

Wu arrived in Nepal last week to head the Chinese mission after his predecessor, Yang Houlan, was recalled from Kathmandu to be appointed ambassador to Burma.

Dahal and Wu discussed recent political events in Nepal, China and in the neighborhood, an aide to the Maoist chief said. The envoy also expressed concern of Tibet during their meeting.

The ruling party chief also updated the envoy on ongoing efforts to form an election government, he added. Security has been tightened in and around Chinese Office and Counselor Office to avoid any untoward incident while Tibetan people are marking the anniversary of their uprising.
