KATHMANDU: Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Wu Chuntai has called on President of Nepali Congress (NC) Sushil Koirala at the latter’s residence in Maharajgunj and discussed the contemporary issues of the country.
Koirala’s aide Laxman Dhakal has informed that they discussed about the recent efforts of the political parties in connection with the announcement of Constituent Assembly (CA) poll date and bringing dissatisfied political parties to the talks table.
During the meet, Ambassador Wu recommended for the announcement of CA election by forging consensus among the parties. In reply, the NC President said the political parties are holding discussions on electoral laws and the CA poll date will be announced soon after reaching to an agreement to this effect.
The high-level political mechanism is actively putting its efforts on the preparation of election and the government is also ready for this, Koirala informed the Ambassador. Making it clear that China has no policy of interfering the internal affairs of Nepal, Ambassador Wu reiterated that China has wished to see Nepal having adopted a policy of economic development after successfully completing the CA election.
The political parties have been finding hard time to agree for the electoral related legislation and hold the election of the constituent assembly on time.
Meanwhile, Nepali Congress president Sushil Koirala is set to shift to another residence from his current rented residence at Maharajgunj.
According to media reports, Koirala is preparing to move to his nephew Shashanka Koirala’s residence in the same location in a day or two as it is said that there is “astrological reasons” behind Koirala’s move.
He will stay at Shashank’s house before another suitable residence is found. Koirala had shifted to the current rented residence, which belongs to Rakshya Rajbandari, after the death of the then NC president Girija Prasad Koirala. Former president of NC Girija Prasad Koirala had been staying in the residence for a long time. According to reports, Koirala could not become the Prime Minister and he is also facing hard times within the party due to astrological reasons. The NC pays a monthly rent of Rs 50,000 for Koirala’s current residence excluding utility bills. IT is also said that Koirala is mulling to change his close aides as he thought that they are ineffective.
