China’s Achievements In Eradicating Poverty “Important For The World”: UNGA President
UNITED NATIONS, (Xinhua): China has eradicated poverty 10 years ahead of schedule, a significant global achievement, said United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) president Tijjani Muhammad-Bande on Monday.
“China is a very important player in the global stage both economically and politically,” Muhammad-Bande said in a video-link interview with Xinhua,
adding that “by this year, China, from what it has done, will achieve Goal No. 1” of the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
For country like China with 1.4 billion people, eliminating poverty has been “important for the world,” he said.
Speaking of his observations about China’s efforts to defeat poverty, the president said he was impressed by “the establishment of a whole agency given power to suggest policies, monitor implementation of policies, and to monitor poverty eradication and see which practice works across the country.”
