China says, US starts ‘threatening diplomacy’ in Nepal

KATHMANDU:- China has said it will oppose the US starting “coercive diplomacy” in Nepal through the MCC.

The United States has pushed for the MCC to be passed by February 28. China has made such allegations while commenting on the issue.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin told a news conference on Friday that he was opposed to “coercive diplomacy.”

Wang said China would welcome the cooperation of the international community to improve Nepal’s economic development and livelihood, but that this should be in the will of the Nepalese people without political conditions.

Spokesperson Wang also said that China will continue to support Nepalese people to choose their own development path and support Nepal to make a decision that is in accordance with their country’s interest and demonstrates people’s willingness. He also said that China will continue to provide support to and help Nepal’s development as a friendly country.

Wang also said that China, as a friendly neighbor and development partner of Nepal, would continue to support the Nepalese people in choosing their path of development and making decisions that reflect the interests of their country and the people. He said that China would continue to support Nepal’s development.

US Assistant Secretary Donald Lu had recently held separate telephone conversations with Nepal’s leaders, during which Lu reportedly urged them to endorse the MCC pact by February 28 or Washington would “review its ties with Nepal.” However, US Ambassador to Nepal Randy Berry has already refuted the news.
