China pledges assistance worth 1.635 billion to Nepal Army


KATHMANDU: Chief of the Army Staff General Gaurav Shumsher Rana, who is currently in a weeklong China visit, held a meeting with Vice Chairman of Central Military Commission, Air Chief Marshal of China, Xu Qiliang on Monday.

A statement issued by the Directorate of Public Relations of Nepal Army said that the duo discussed the matter of bilateral interests and supports during the meeting.

On the occasion, Deputy Chief of General Staff Lt Gen Wang Guan Zhong, Chief of Medical Department of General Logistics Department Maj Gen Reh Guo Quan, Deputy Chief of Operation Department of General Staff HQ Maj Gen Guo Yu Lin and Deputy Chief of Foreign Affairs Office Maj Gen Ci Guo Wei were present on behalf of Chinese side.

Earlier today, the army chief had received the guard of honors from different sections of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China. The function was also attended by PLA’s Chief of General Staff, General Fang Fanghui, according to the Directorate of Public Relations of NA.

Meanwhile, according to NA, Rana signed a protocol of Chinese grant worth RMB 109 million (Rs 1.635 billion) to Nepali Army. Of the total assistance, RMB 59 million will be used for setting up two mobile hospitals, while the remaining RMB 50 million will be spent for other logistic purposes, the army statement added.
