Yang held a bilateral meeting with Foreign Minister Madhav Prasad Ghimire and reiterated for the Chinese support for holding fresh CA election. According to officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Yang committed China’s support on holding fresh CA elections.
While welcoming to the Chinese top dignitaries Minister Ghimire thanked to the Chinese government for ongoing supports on Nepal’s economic development. During the meeting, the Nepalese side asked for financial assistance to some development projects including the West Seti Project and Ring Road expansion. Minister Ghimire also asked to Yang for more air and railway connectivity between the two countries.
“We are serious regarding Nepal’s request providing financial support on various projects. I would forward Nepal’s request to the high authorities in my country,” Foreign Ministry source quoted Jeichi as saying during the meeting.
Sources at the MOFA confirmed that two agreements will be signed during his visit. There will be an agreement related to Chinese assistance to the Election Commission and another for constructing an Armed Police Force (APF) training academy, sources said. State Councilor Yang will inaugurate the opening ceremony of the Ring Road improvement project on Tuesday morning, officials said.
He is scheduled to meet Chairman of interim government Khil Raj Regmi and Vice President Paramananda Jha along with other top leaders tomorrow. The Chinese delegates will visit the Bhaktapur Durbar Square before they return to Beijing.
Yang, who retired as Foreign Minister in March and got promoted to the post of State Councilor, is the highest foreign leader to visit Nepal since the formation of election government under Khil Raj Regmi on March 14.
It is believed that the top Chinese official will discuss the Constituent Assembly election announced for November 19, growing pro-Tibet activities in Nepal, and Chinese investment in Nepal’s infrastructure sector including upgrade of the Ring Road in the Kathmandu Valley, with the Nepali officials.
