Putting his views at an interaction on the upcoming CA issues organized at Madhyapurthimi by the UCPN-Maoist Bhaktapur district committee on Saturday, leader Bhattarai said, “Nepal will never see the second CA election if it is not held on November 19”. He stressed that the date fixed for the upcoming election would never be postponed under any circumstances.
He added that the country did not get the constitution from the first Constituent Assembly because of the status quoists and urged all people to be committed for the election. Dr. Bhattarai stated that the UCPN-Maoist is adamant to prepare the republic constitution with federalism with new model.
He also claimed that major parties are holding discussion with disgruntled parties for ensuring the elections on time. “The HLPC will fulfill the genuine demands of the agitating political parties but demands intended at foiling the election will never be addressed,” he added.
Dr. Bhattarai, who got into controversy for his comment against former King accused former King Gyanendra Shah of trying to resurrect monarchy in the name of religion. The Maoist leader also charged that the deposed king was dedicatedly working against the republic and democracy.
Meanwhile, Chairperson of the Rastriya Prajatanra Party Nepal Kamal Thapa has said that President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav’s silence in current political situation is suspicious. Thapa also asked the head of state to play a ‘parental role’ at the time speculations are rife over the timely Constituent Assembly (CA) polls due to escalating political polarization.
Leader Thapa further accused the major political parties of lacking commitment towards CA polls. Dubbing the High Level Political Committee as a main hindrance for polls, the right wing leader argued that an all-party meeting or a round table conference is essential for a fruitful poll.
