BIRATNAGAR: Biratnagar Metropolitan City (BMC) has demanded naming Biratngar as the permanent capital of State 1.
A metropolis board meeting on Saturday also expressed its serious concerns on a decision by the state level meeting of the ruling Nepal Communist Party to table a proposal in the parliament to fix the capital of the state government within ‘the Greater Birat Development Area’.
The meeting also warned to launch protest if the state’s current capital is taken out from the metropolis. The decisions of the committee were shared amid an all-party discussion programme here on Saturday.
“There will be an unfortunate situation if the capital is shifted elsewhere from Biratnagar. There will be no option but to fix the capital within the metropolis,” said BMC mayor Bhim Parajuli. He said a huge chunk of budget had been spent to develop infrastructure of Biratnagar to level up its standard as the state capital.
