The Kingdom of Nepal and Republic of San Marino have established diplomatic relations at the ambassadorial level, according to the Foreign Ministry. Arjun Bahadur Thapa, Charge d’ Affairs and Acting Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Nepal to the United Nations and Daniele D. Bodini Permanent Representative of San Marino to the United Nations signed the agreement of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries amidst a special function in New York on 10 August 2005. San Marino is a landlocked country in Europe, which has close historical and political ties with Italy. The country has around 29,000 with a literacy rate of 96 per cent. An independent republic, San Marino is headed by a Chief of State and has an elected parliament. With the establishment of diplomatic relations with San Marino, the number of countries Nepal has established diplomatic relations with stands at 115.
