KATHMANDU:– The Russian and Chinese presidents did not attend the COP 26 conference in the United Kingdom. US President Joe Biden has criticized the absence of Chinese and Russian leaders at the COP 26 summit on climate change. Speaking at COP 26 on Tuesday night, Biden said climate was a major issue and China had moved away from it.
According to the BBC, he has accused Russia and President Putin of doing the same. The presidents of both China and Russia are absent from the two-week conference in Glasgow on November 14. But both countries have sent their representatives for talks. China is the world’s largest emitter of carbon dioxide, followed by the United States. Russia ranks fifth after the European Union and India.
Leaders from more than 120 countries are attending the conference. Countries have agreed on a global commitment to end deforestation by 2030 and limit methane emissions within that year. Both China and Russia have signed a commitment to end deforestation.
Before Biden began speaking at the conference on Tuesday, the Russian president had virtually addressed a meeting on forest management in COP-26. According to a statement issued by the Kremlin, Putin called on Russia to protect its forests.
Asked about the role played by China, Russia and Saudi Arabia in the talks so far, the US president made such remarks about Russia and China.
