N24 Correspondent, WASHINGTON:- The Biden administration has scrapped a new test system and questions for US citizenship introduced by the Trump administration last December.
The Biden administration has ejected a new test system for US citizenship introduced by former President Trump on December 1, and the full system of questions and citizenship will be in place from March 1, according to USCIS.
Since December 1, the Trump administration has changed the question system for US citizenship exams and introduced tougher questions and systems than in the past. Under the old system, US citizenship required 10 questions, including American politics, geography, and history, and six of them had to be answered correctly.
But from March 1, 10 questions will be asked under the whole system and 6 questions will be answered correctly. In the old system, up to 10 questions were asked out of 100 questions, but from December 1, the number of questions was increased to 128. From March 1, instead of 128 questions will be asked from 100 questions that have been implemented since 2008.
The examination system of 2008 was re-established after many years of extensive study and after consultation with more than 150 institutions. From December 1 to March 1, applicants will be given the option to choose one of the two examination systems.
Those who applied between December 1 and March 1 and prepared under the exam system introduced in 2020 will also be able to choose the new exam system. However, if they want to take the exam under the entire examination system, they can also choose the old system.
The transition period is set for April 19 to repeal the exam system introduced by Trump. Applicants on or after March 1 will take the US citizenship exam under the old 2008 exam system.
Section 312 of the U.S. Immigration and Nationality Act provides that in order to obtain U.S. citizenship, a person must have knowledge of the United States and be able to speak, write, and read ordinary English. It is estimated that 90 percent of Americans pass the interview. Not all questions asked during the interview are easy.
