LISBON:- German champions Bayern Munich have reached the semi-finals of the Champions League after suffering a humiliating defeat to Barcelona. Bayern beat Barcelona 8-2 in the quarterfinals in Lisbon on Friday night.
Bayern took the lead through a goal in the fourth minute by Thomas Müller. In the 7th minute of the match, the game was tied with a suicide goal by David Alaba of Bayern. But then Bayern continued to dominate Spanish club Barcelona. Ivan Perisic scored in the 21st minute to make it 2-1. Serge Gnabry scored the third goal for Baron in the 27th minute.
Müller scored his second individual goal in the 31st minute to make it 4-1. Luis Suarez scored in the 57th minute to make it 2-4. But 6 minutes later, in the 63rd minute, Josuja Kimich scored the fifth goal for Bayern. Robert Lewandowski scored the sixth goal for Bayern in the 82nd minute, while Philippe Coutinho scored the seventh and eighth goals in the 85th and 89th minutes.
Barcelona have conceded eight goals in their first game against Bayern in the 1946 Copa del Rey final against Sevilla. Barcelona, who lost 6-0 to Espanyol in the Spanish League in 1951, have lost by a wide margin since then.
The Champions League match is also being compared to the 2014 World Cup semifinals, in which Germany, including Müller, beat Brazil 7-1.
Germany had won that World Cup and now Bayern are also strong contenders for the Champions League title. Having reached the semi-finals, Bayern will now face either Manchester City or Lyon.
