
BAJURA: Bajura district headquarters Martadi is in dark for last five days after the canal of Triveni Micro Hydropower Project was swept away in a flood on Wednesday.
People living in Martadi Bazaar and surrounding localities are deprived from electricity facility after the flood in the Bahuli Rivulet.
Two FM stations operating in the district stopped broadcasting whereas local newspapers have also failed to publish new editions for last five days.
As many as 1,400 households are affected due to the obstruction.
Dr Dosti Regmi of the District Hospital said treatment of patients has also been affected due to lack of electricity. He said the hospital has been unable to conduct surgeries and lab tests.
Works at government and non-government offices as well as financial institutions are also disturbed.
Meanwhile, the power house of the micro hydro project is at risk after the flood. Manager Dayaram Pandit said Nepal Police and Nepal Army personnel assisted by locals are building structures to protect the power house from the floods.
He added that it is still uncertain when the electricity supply resumes from the Project.
The 200-kilowatt Project was established in 1986.
Road to 11 villages obstructed
Meanwhile, road leading to 11 northern villages of the district was blocked by the flood on Wednesday.
The villages are reeling under shortage of household goods including food items and medicines, according to local traders.
Chief District Officer (CDO) Dhruba Raj Joshi said army and police personnel have been deployed to open the blocked road.
