KATHMANDU: At a time when the government and major four political parties have been mulling to convince the agitating political parties to take part in the election, chairperson of CPN-Maoist Mohan Baidya has informed that they would not hold talks maintained with the President, the incumbent government and its talks team, and the four-party mechanism.
Speaking at an interaction in the Capital on Saturday, Baidya said they are however ready for holding informal talks with the President to resolve current crisis.
The CPN-Maoist has been leading the 33 parties that oppose the purported CA elections under the Khil Raj Regmi-led interim government. The alliance has been protesting against the four party’s move to appoint Chief Justice led election government.
Baidhya made it clear that the agitating parties would not sit for talks with the government as they are demanding its dissolution. He however made it clear that they would sit for talks if 11-point agreement that the four parties made on March 14 to form the Chief Justice-led election government is scrapped.
“We even cannot think about taking part in the elections until our demands are addressed,” he said, suggesting that the poll boycott was imminent if the current state of affairs continued. According to him, the elections could not be held now and if held also, the Constituent Assembly would not be able to promulgate a pro-people constitution.
On other hand talking to journalists at Simara Airport of Bara, UCPN-Maoist Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that his party was ready to enter into an electoral alliance with the Mohan-Baidya-led CPN-Maoist.
Dahal said his party was willing to forge an alliance if Baidya wanted to do so. He added that his party is holding talks with Baidya for probable electoral alliance. Dahal however did not mention whether the CPN-Maoist is taking part in the elections or not.
He informed that the top three leaders of his party will contest the upcoming elections from Madhes constituencies.
Dahal also made it clear that current Khilraj Regmi led-government is committed to hold new election of Constitution Assembly (CA). He also added that preparations are underway to hold new elections either in second or third week of November. Dahal also urged not to cast any doubt on holding of new election.
