Baidya reiterates collaboration with former King; Bhattarai takes exception to Baidya’s statement

NUWAKOT: As the CPN-Maoist leadership did not get positive signal from China during their recent visit to China for boycotting the elections, CPN-Maoist has been mulling to join hands with former King on the basis of nationalism.

Speaking at a press conference in Nuwakot, Chairman of the CPN-Maoist, Mohan Baidya has reiterated that there could also be collaboration with the former King, who carries true feelings of nationalism. He also said that there was no alternative to the formation of a greater front on this issue.

He clarified that there would be partnership with any one on the issue of nationalism. Stating that it was positive of the government to send an invitation for talks, Baidya said that they would sit for talks only after the government makes it clear that the talks will be held without any condition. The team comprising Baidya and General Secretary, Ram Bahadur Thapa, imparted training to party cadres at Bidur.

Meanwhile, former Prime Minister and UCPN-Maoist) leader Baburam Bhattarai has taken a serious exception to the CPN-Maoist’s statement regarding possible collaboration with former royalists under the pretext of being nationalist.

He went on to say that the CPN-Maoist leader Mohan Baidya’s statement of collaborating with the former King would further put the nation under peril. “Where will the nation head if people who claim themselves to be revolutionary start talking about possible collaboration with former King,” Bhattarai argued.

He also accused the former King Gyanendra Shah of hatching conspiracy against the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) elections in the name of distributing relief to flood victims. Bhattarai claimed to have received tip-off that the deposed king has mobilized his supporters to revive monarchy.

“Gyanendra´s visit to Terai district is politically motivated in the name of providing assistance to the flood-victims. This is quite objectionable,” Bhattarai said, adding that the major parties and civil society activists, who were parts of the Second Janaandolan-2063, should be cautioned of former King Gyanedra´s activities. A section of society is trying to create a conducive environment in favor of former King Gyanendra claiming that the Monarchy was better than current political system, which is completely wrong, he added
