Addressing at a book launching program he claimed that CPN-UML is not a communist party and UCPM-Maoist has transformed into CPN-UML. He further said that as all the communist parties have deviated from their ideology, CPN-Maoist is only leading the communist movement in Nepal.
Furthermore, he said political conflict is deepening due to the influence of foreign powers and lack of farsightedness on part of the senior leaders despite the flexibility exhibited by the CPN-Maoist till the last hour. “Although those who failed to understand our flexibility have threatened to deploy the army, Nepali people will eventually know the actual people’s movement,” he said. CPN-Maoist politburo member Dharmendra Bastola expressed reservations over the attempt to scrap the public mandate given by people’s war and the first Constituent Assembly election.
Meanwhile, at a time when the UCPN-Maoist is busy welcoming leaders of different political parties to strengthen their base for the elections of the Constituent assembly, the party is finding it difficult to manage the expectations of the party leaders.
After the media reported possible names of the leaders who were vying to contest from Kathmandu district, two local leaders have already announced to submit their candidacy to ‘safeguard their decade-long political career’ going against the party’s diktat.
Madhav Timilsina, a local resident and district-level leader of Unified CPN-Maoist, has claimed that he would leave the Constituency No 6 of the Kathmandu district only for party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal. UCPN-Maoist is considering to field Chairman of the All Nepal National Independent Students Union –Revolutionary, Himal Sharma from the constituency.
Timilsina, who claims that he would win the election if given a chance, said he would not let a ‘tourist’ candidate to contest from ‘his constituency’. “I have already spoken to Devendra Poudel and Post Bahadur Bogati and both of them said they can’t do anything. Therefore, I have not changed my mind and will face the consequences whatsoever,” he said, adding that he is all set to file his candidacy.
The party is facing similar problem in different constituencies. The party leaders, who fought the decade long armed insurgency, are not happy with the nexus of the senior leaders of the party with different interest groups and according top priority to those who joined the party after the insurgency.
Due to growing internal rift, the party has not been able to announce the candidates for contesting the CA poll. Although leader Barshaman Pun had claimed that the party would declare the list on Friday, the party failed to hold the meeting. Some of the party leaders have publicly said that they will not support the party if the party neglect the leaders, who have long contribution in the party. UCPN-Maoist, who proclaimed to be the largest party in the second constituent assembly as well is loosing base due to internal rift and opportunistic behavior of the party leaders. The lavish lifestyle of the party leaders and their nexus with corrupt businessmen and bureaucrats is being criticized by the public. Three senior leaders of the party Party chairperson Dahal and two other leaders Dr. Baburam Bhattarai and Narayan Kaji Shreshta have been trying to provide tickets to more leaders from their file.
