Baidya and Prachanda faction ready for split

N24, KATHMANDU: Prachanda and Mohan Baidya faction are racing against time to set up separate district and state committees in six Mid Western districts.

However while the separate district units have come into place they have not yet called meetings to give a full shape to the vertical split. The districts in question are Banke, Bardiya, Surkhet, Salyan, Dailekh and Dang.

Baidya faction has been claiming that Prachanda himself issued the directive to his supporters to form a parallel district committee during his visit to Surkhet.

“The establishment has compelled us to form parallel committees for the sake of our continued existence,” said Haribhakta Kandel, Maoists politburo member from the Baidya camp.

In Banke, there has not been any district committee meetings since the last one year while the relationship between the two camps is worst.

Baidya supporters have meanwhile formed a separate committee under Ashok Rokaya. “We’re yet to give the final shape to the committee, but it will be done shortly,” Tirtha Gyawali has been quoted saying.

But Dambar BK from the establishment side has claimed the formation of parallel committee by the Baidya faction is not going to make any difference.

Meanwhile, the establishment side has formed its own Bheri-Karnali state committee led by Shakti Basnet in Surkhet.

Similarly, the Baidya side has also formed parallel committees in Baridya, Dang and Dailekh with separate party liaison offices.
