Attempts to curtail press freedom and human rights: NC President Deuba

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has blamed the government of trying to curtail press freedom and human rights by introducing different bills.
NC president Deuba said so at an inauguration of a workshop jointly organised by Nepal Press Union and International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) here on Wednesday. Saying the NC was established for the protection of democracy, he said that the NC has always fought for democracy and all should involve for the same in coming days.
Similarly, NC leader Dr Minendra Rijal said that the bills related to Media Council, Information technology, Human Rights and National Security Council are against the sentiment and aspiration of the constitution.
Director of IFJ Asia Pacific, Jane Worthington, President of NPU, Badri Sigdel, among others expressed their views on the challenges facing the media sector as well as the role of organisations like NPU.
