Army integration proposal coming soon


KATHMANDU: The PM headed intra-party committee on army integration has asked its secretariat to come up with proposal on integration the PLAs within NA within five days.

A meeting of the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) held at it’s Secretariat in New Baneswor instructed the Secretariat to work as per the agreement reached among the political parties on November 1, said AISC member and Minister for Finance, Barshaman Pun.

The 9,700 Maoist combatants who opted for integration will be given another opportunity to choose rehabilitation or voluntary retirement in the next five days.

An agreement was almost reached on the ranks to be given to the Maoist combatants to be integrated into the Nepal Army, Mr Pun said.

He, however, did not elaborate on the ranks of the post that the Maoist combatants would get.

The AISC met today following a decision taken by the senior leaders of the major political parties to speed up the integration process.

The decision taken by the meeting today was a step ahead in the ongoing army integration process, said Chief Secretary Madhav Ghimire.

Likewise, CPN-UML leader and member of the Committee, Bhim Rawal said a decision was reached to move ahead with the integration process as per the agreement reached among the political parties.

The Army Integration Special Committee shall meet again on March 26. RSS
