KATHMANDU: At a time when the student wings affiliated with different political parties have been pointing fingers to each other for the postponement of the election of the Free Student Union, president of the All Nepal National Independent Students’ Union-Revolutionary, a student wing of UCPN-Maoist, Himal Sharma put in his papers as the president of FSU at Tribhuvan University (TU) central Campus on Thursday.
Sharma made such announcement amidst a cadre meeting of ANNISU-R at National Assembly hall in the Capital today. Sharma said his resignation was to exert pressure for fixing the new FSU polls date. He added that his resignation would also put pressure on the chancellor and vice chancellor of TU to resign.
The FSU polls scheduled today was postponed indefinitely a week ago after student wings of major political parties remained sharply divided on the status of students admitted illegally.
He strongly demanded the TU authorities to announce the new date for FSU elections that was prorogued for an indefinite time. “If they fail to do so we will come up with stern protest program forcing the TU office bearers to tender resignation from their positions,” he said.
The election postponed following differences among student wings of different political parties about appointment of fake students for the purpose of winning the elections. Nepali Congress affiliated Nepal Student Union rolled back today’s valley bandh following after Tribhuvan University called student unions for talk. Almost all the students unions are protesting the TU’s move to prorogue the FSU polls.
