NEW YORK / USA : Some like minded Americans with Nepali Origin have underscored the need of forming a new organization of Nepali Americans dedicated solely to facilitate the transition of younger generations of Nepali Americans to participate in the US mainstream and make them competent and qualified in the field of interest through training and other opportunities.
The need was realized as the number of Americans of Nepali origin has been increasing every year. It is estimated that the number of Nepali in the United States will reach to more than 500 thousand.
Although there are many organizations of Nepali people in the United States but the need of new organization realized to be involved at all levels of public life; town/village, county, state, national, professional organizations, trade unions and other civic organizations.
One of the leading personalities, who are active for forming such organization, Shyam D, Karki informed that such organization could be instrumental for collectively raising the voice of Nepali community. Mr. Karki informed that main objectives of such organization could be:
a) To encourage, promote and facilitate the participation of Nepali Americans in US mainstream and public life
b) To initiate networking of Nepali American professionals among themselves and their peers.
c) To harmonize relationship between Nepali Americans and Nepalis in more realistic terms
d) To advocate and help other Nepali expatriates who have taken citizenship in their host countries to get more involved in host country’s public life
They have formed tentative timeline for forming such organization. As per their plan they want to convene a meeting in September 2013 to precede the work of forming such organization. They also informed that this organization’s membership will be open to Nepali American Citizens and people qualified to apply for citizenship.
However the most important thing is that rather than just adding another organization, it should try to bring people of all walks of life under its umbrella and play constructive role for protecting best interest of Nepali Community.
