The general assembly of America Nepal Society, an organization of Nepalese residing in the US, held on October 26, elected executives and the election process have come under the legal scanner. Following the legal rows, the sworn-in ceremony scheduled of the elected officials scheduled for Sunday has been cancelled. The general assembly had elected the Thakur Pudasaini as the President and his panels.
However, another contender Shreedhar Kandel has challenged the result of election claiming the irregularity in the election. It is learnt that Kandel led panel was planning to seek the legal remedy complaining that the vote rigging marred the election. According to Kandel, those delegates without having voting rights had also casted their votes during the election.
The America-Nepal Society is one of the oldest organizations of Nepalese in the US working for the benefits of Nepalese here. However, once active, it was rendered passive and divided due to the partisan interests. Nepal’s Ambassador to the US Shankar Sharma is the founder of the Society. According to the information we have received, the sworn-in ceremony of the executives has been cancelled due to the stay-order issued by the local court questioning the legality of the election process and elected officials. While asked about his response, Pudasaini decline to make any comments.
