By Mannu Shahi, KATHMANDU: Albatross is back in K-town after a respite of nearly a year, though the band did perform an acoustic set a few months back at Trishara, Lazimpat yet all of the members weren’t present at the event.
Due to the band’s drummer leaving the country for his personal work, the band hasn’t remained much active in the scene. However, all the members are getting together this time to record their upcoming fourth album and do a couple of shows in and outside the valley.
Shirish Dali on vocals, Suncha Vox on guitars, Avaya Siddhi Bajracharya on bass and Kismat D Shrestha on drums together make Albatross.
They label their music as Hard Rock, Alternative Rock/ Progressive, starting out around mid-2005 with mellow hits like Timi Bhane and Khase ka Tara, the band later transformed their texture with heavier tracks as Ma ra Malai and Afnai Sansar Ma. The band has had the most successful touring career amidst their contemporary Nepali rock bands and is only growing stronger with time and experience.
And on the occasion of Nepali republic day, 29th May they are performing at Lord of Drinks, Thamel under the banner ‘Ganatantra ko Sawari’. The band will be joined along by post-rock outfit Space who have been very much well-received by the audience everywhere with their mixture of melancholic melodies, groovy beats and catchy phrases.
Their feature at the Yomari Sessions also made them more accessible to a rather diverse crowd and the band has been evolving fully writing more stuff and gigging around town constantly. While, the folk rock group Pahelo Batti Muni, who themselves have just launched their debut album Asthir last Friday, will also be joining in the bill.
The band has been around for quite some time now, releasing singles on a constant basis. The event will start from 6:30 pm and the tickets are priced Rs. 1000 per person. After party entertainers for the event are DJ Anish and DJ Suren, so check out their social media sites for further details and drop by to show your support.
