Air Dynasty chopper meets accident in Lukla; Four injured


KATHMANDU: A chopper of Air Dynasty crashed while landing at Tenzing-Hillary Airport in Lukla, Solukhumbu on Thursday morning.

Local media reports quoted District police office, Solukhumbu as saying that the 9NAEX chopper crashed when it hit the wire fencing the airport compound at 8 this morning.

According to DSP of District Police Office Solukhumbu Badri Bikram Thana, one passenger Dawa Gyalgen Sherpa, among the four persons on board has been seriously injured. Three others received minor injuries.

The chopper had flown to the district from the capital this morning. There is no regular flight to Solukhumbu district, so, chartered helicopters have been providing service to the passengers. Regular plain service has been halted in the district for maintenance of airports. The district is the hub for tourists wishing to go to Mount Everest and other trekking sites.

All the injured are undergoing treatment at Pasang Lhamu – Nicole Nicky Hospital in Lukla. The cause of accident is yet to be known. Other details are yet to be received. There have been rise in the incidents of air accidents in Nepal in recent days.
