Aging Nepal bags ‘UNESCO International Literacy Prizes, 2020’
KATHMANDU:- Aging Nepal, a non-profit organization in the sector of senior citizens, has won the ‘UNESCO International Literacy Prize, 2020’.
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) decided to award Aging Nepal for its contribution to the welfare of senior citizens and literacy, said Dr. Baburam Adhikari, co secretary-general of the Nepal National Commission for UNESCO. Two organizations from across the globe get the award every year and the prize carries a purse of USD 20,000.
The award will be distributed virtually on International Literacy Day on September 8 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic although it has been distributed amid a program at the UNESCO’s headquarters in Paris, he said. It is a matter of pride for the government of Nepal, the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, the Nepal National Commission for UNESCO, and the entire Nepalis for the organization bagging the international prize, he said.
Likewise, the Aging Nepal President Krishna Murari Bhandari expressed happiness for Aging Nepal winning the award. The organization has been providing literacy to senior citizens.
