AFC slaps $ 6000 fine to ANFA for poor security during AFC Challenge Cup

KATHMANDU: The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has slapped US$ 6000 fine to the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA), the Apex body of football, for violating AFC’s code of conduct while organizing the match between Nepal and Bangladesh at Dashrath Stadium last year.

The ANFA has slapped the fine for the lax security arrangement during a match of AFC Challenge Cup 2014 (Q). A meeting of the Disciplinary Committee of AFC held in Kuala Lumpur on May 14 had decided to fine ANFA citing the poor security management during the AFC Challenge Cup Qualifier game between Nepal and Bangladesh.

Nepali crowd had attacked Bangladeshi players throwing mobile phones and lighters at the players following the home side’s loss against the Bangladeshi team. Nepal had lost to Bangladesh 0-2.

As per the decision of AFC, ANFA has to clear the fine within 30 days. ANFA is also ordered to inform AFC on the security measures that the Association has taken to ensure such incident does not occur in future and whether the Association has identified the perpetrator and the sanction that has been taken against the perpetrator, according to AFC.
