NEPALGUNJ: Swimming competition that is to begin today under the 8th Nepal’s National Games is going to be held in a private swimming pool. The swimming pool of a Hotel in Nepalgunj is being used as the swimming pool in the Nepalgunj stadium premises was not ready on time.
The initial games of swimming will be held at the swimming pool of Hotel Cygnett Inn Krishna, confirmed State Sports Development Committee Chair Bhim Oli. The final matches will be held in the official swimming pool, as only water is left to be filled in the pool.
So far, Rs. 1.5 million has already been spent in the construction of the swimming pool. Foundation stone for the swimming pool had been laid nine years ago but it was not completed due to dilly dallying on part of the contractor company and the tournament organisers, said President of Nepal Swimming Association Ashok Bajracharya.
However, President of Banke district swimming association Gobardhan Singh said it was the negligence on part of the National Sports Council that led to incompletion of the swimming pool. “It has become a Nepali practice to speed up with things only when the deadline knocks the door,” he said.
