KATHMANDU: The government selected 84 model schools from various 69 districts for the School Sector Development Programme (SSDP) in the last fiscal year 2018/2019. The selected model schools were provided Rs 50 million during the period of five years to construct physical infrastructure and enhance the quality of education.
The schools were selected by the Centre for Education and Human Resources the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology’s on the basis of the evaluation made by the local level, according to Centre’s Director Gehanath Gautam.
The indexes are related to the access to electricity, internet, subjects available for class 11 and 12, SEE’s three years’ result, ratio of students and teacher and the like. According to him, those selected schools were chosen out of 336 schools on the basis of the various indexes. The Centre so far has selected 322 model schools.
The Centre will select 100 model schools every year under the Programme which started from 2016 and will last through 2023. The government has planned to select 1,000 model schools under the SSDP. At least one school has been selected from each local unit, informed Gautam.
