JHAPA: A 75-year-old, physically disabled woman was raped in Damak, Eastern Nepal on Sunday. The police suspect local Rajendra Gurung, 35, as the rapist and have taken him into custody.
The woman, who cannot speak and can barely walk, is undergoing treatment at the Damak Hospital under the supervision of Damak Municipality. Deputy-mayor Gita Adhikari has asked the hospital to provide the best care to the elderly woman.
“The woman’s body was covered in blue marks and she was in a lot of pain,” said Adhikari, “So we immediately brought her to the hospital in the municipality’s vehicle.”
The municipality has placed the victim under the care of a safe house operated by the organisation Rural and Urban Development Nepal (RUDN). According to Basanta Laxmi Udas, coordinator of RUDN, the woman is under a lot of mental stress and is scared of people.
Shyamal Subba, chief of the Area Police Office, Damak, stated that the woman was found in a severely injured state with her clothes covered in blood.
