KAILALI: Some 300 bigaha of land in Kailali is under the control of Indians, who have been planting sugarcane since the past 35 years. The land falling under Tikapur municipality was taken on lease by the Indian citizens across the border.
However, some 50 individuals from then Dhandsinghpur VDC have claimed ownership of the land, which was unregistered land. “We continued to receive lease amount and half of the produce until 2040 B.S. but since then only few are paying for it,” said land owner Dane Saud.
Likewise, land owner Krishna Prasad Dhungana said that his complaint before the Area Police Office and Area Administration, Tikapur has not received any response. “The land has been certified by then VDC but we are not able to get justice for lack of land ownership certificate,” he said.
Meanwhile, two Indian settlements have also been established in the Indian territory. The Tikapur municipality had published a notice, urging the Indians to clear the area but it has failed to do so. The locals have called for more active role and intervention of the local level government to address the issue.
