KATHMANDU: Twenty-two political parties out of the government, including the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML, have decided to protest vigorously against the government, reasoning it dissolved the Constituent Assembly unconstitutionally and declared fresh elections to the CA.
A meeting of the 22 parties held at NC headquarters on Monday concluded that it was national duty for them to stand firm against government’s move of holding elections for the protection of peace, democracy and progression. The dissolution of the CA was because of the conspiracy of the Maoists, they said, accusing the Maoists of attempting to impose authoritarianism by capturing the state authority.
Through the meeting, the parties called on all professionals, intellects, peasants, women, indigenous nationalities, Madhesi, Dalits, youths, students, industrialists and traders of all classes and communities to participate in the June 8 joint mass protest gathering for federal democratic republic, social harmony, progression and peace.
The meeting decided to effectively mobilize all the sister wings of the parties associated with the national democratic campaign so to make the protest assembly scheduled for June 8 successful, said NC General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula after the meeting.
Besides, the meeting decided to hold a meeting of the protest assembly organizing committee Tuesday morning so as to make preparations for the publicity programmes. Similarly, a meeting of senior leaders of 22 parties is scheduled to be held at the UML headquarters Balkhu in the afternoon, he added.
Representatives of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party, the CPN ( ML), the Chure Bhawar Rastriya Ekata Party, Nepal Pariwar Dal, Nepal Sadbhawana ( Anandadevi), Samajbadi Party, CPN ML ( Janasamajbadi), Sanghiya Loktantrik Tharuhat, Nawa Nepal, Nepal Loktantraik Samajbadi and former CA member Sadrul Miya Hak were among those present at the meeting.
Likewise, representatives of the Janamorcha Nepal, Rastriya Janabadi Morcha Nepal, CPN Unified ( Marxist), Samyukta Janamorcha Nepal, CPN Unified Revolutionary, Nepal Sukumbasi Party Loktantrik, Janata Dal United, Chure Bhawar Rastriya Ekata Party , Nepal Samjbadi Parishad, the Nepal Rastriya Bikas Party and Nepal Janata Dal also attended the meeting.
