21st Convention of ANNFSU kicking off; Two candidates including Nabina Lama contesting for top post


KATHMANDU: With the approaching date for the elections of the Constituent Assembly, the student wing of CPN-UML All Nepal National Free Student Union (ANNFSU) is organizing its 21st National Convention from today.

The National Convention is taking place following six month long dispute as the student leaders are divided into different group close of senior leaders of the party. The convention will elect new leadership of the organization.

One of the aspirant of Chairperson of the organization Nabina Lama informed that as the organization has completed Convention related with statute of the organization this convention will select new leadership of the organization. CPN-UML chairperson Jhalnath Khanal is scheduled to inaugurate the National Convention amidst a function to be held at Balmiki Campus of Kathmandu this afternoon.

The closed door session of the organization will take place in Kamaladi. Around 1,500 representatives from all over the country will take part in the convention. Two candidates including vice-chairperson of the organization Nabina Lama have been vying for the race of chairperson of the organization. Lama is backed by party chairperson Jhalanath Khanal and Vice-chairperson Bam Dev Gautam, while General Secretary of the organization Kishor Bikram Malla is contesting for the top post of the organization with the backing of senior leaders of the party Madhav Kumar Nepal and K. P. Sharma Oli. According to close source of senior leaders of the party senior leader Nepal is also likely to back Lama at the last moment.

Raj Kumar Rai, Nabaraj Poudel, Bachan Singh, Saroj Yadav, Dipak Gautam, Dhurba Raj and Guna Raj Acharaya have been seeking the post of vice-chairperson while Thomas Bastola and Rachana Khadka have been trying to get the portfolio of General Secretary. The leadership of Madhav Dhungel elected through 20th National Convention of the organization marred into controversy due to inefficiency of the leadership. Dissenting group have been running parallel activities in the organization. Following dispute within the organization, CPN-UML dissolved the committee headed by Dhungel and formed National Convention organizing committee.
