KATHMANDU: One day after the agitating 33-party alliance has decided to team up with other factions opposing the elections of the constituent assembly, 18 parties in Baidya-led 33-party alliance decide to participate in polls after forming a new front
Eighteen of the 33 parties in the alliance led by Mohan Baidya’s CPN-Maoist have said they are going to take part in the November elections.
The 18 parties announced their decision at a press conference on Friday. They have also formed a separate alliance ‘progressive democratic national front’.
Bishnu Raj Aryal, chairman of CPN-ML (Socialist), informed that the government should create favorable atmosphere so that the CPN-Maoist and other groups could join the electoral process.
The parties that have severed their ties with Baidya-led alliance are minor outfits like CPN (Marxist), CPN-ML (Socialist), Rastriya Punarjagaran Party and Bahujatiya Samabesi Party. This is a major blow to the alliance opposing the CA poll. Two other alliances one Upendra Yadav led Madheshi Janadhikar Forum Nepal and another Ashok Rai led Federal Socialist Party are positive towards taking part in the elections if the four major political fulfill their demands. Both the parties have been demanding to increase seats under proportional representation system. The Baidya led CPN-Maoist did not register at the election commission for the purpose of CA election.
Meanwhile 60 leaders of CPN-Maoist including Newa State in-charge of Maoist volunteer bureau Rabi Kumar Budathoki have returned back to mother-party UCPN-Maoist.
60 members of CPN-Maoist affiliated Security Workers Association returned back to the party. Leader of UCPN-Maoist Pravakar and Chairperson of All Nepal Trade Union Federation Shalikram Jamkattel among others welcomed to them in the party.
Budathoki informed that they returned back to the party as the Baidya led CPN-Maoist does not have clear strategy to move ahead and they are just limiting themselves for criticizing the UCPN-Maoist.
