KATHMANDU: Nearly one and a-half-dozen VDCs in Kavre district are at risk of food insecurity, according to the district-level food security alliance, Kavre.
Nine VDCs of Mahabharat range and other VDCs across the Koshi River are at high risk of food insecurity. Maize is the main crop in Kavre district.
According to the alliance, Chaubas, Dhuseni Shibalaya, Gothpani, Sanobangthali, Saping and other VDCs are running under food shortage.
The situation of food security was evaluated on the basis of production of food crops, storage of food in major markets, agri-based employment and situation of cash crops, natural disaster among others, said district representative of alliance Bharat Thapa.
He, however, said that areas including Dhulikhel and some others have no threat of food insecurity.
Chief of District Agriculture Office, Kavre, Sahadev Humagain said that production of food crop is likely to decrease this year and could result food insecurity. He said maize production is sure to go down by 50- 60 per cent this year in the VDCs across the Koshi River. RSS
